In short

This career quiz asks eight questions about how you like to work, what you can stand and how long you can train before you need a paycheck. It then points you to one of six directions: healthcare support, skilled trades, computers and IT, beauty, driving or auto repair. Each result links to profiles with national pay and outlook figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Which direction fits you?

Eight quick questions about how you like to spend a workday. Pick the answer that sounds most like you, not the one that sounds best.

1. A free Saturday afternoon. What are you most likely doing?
2. Which sounds like the worst workday?
3. How do you feel about blood, needles or bodily fluids?
4. When something breaks, you...
5. What matters most in the next job?
6. How long can you realistically train before you need a paycheck?
7. Pick the place you'd rather work.
8. Your body and your job:

This is a starting point, not a test score. Nothing you pick is saved or sent anywhere. It is our own short quiz, not a validated assessment; for a deeper look, the free O*NET Interest Profiler from the U.S. Department of Labor is linked below.

How to use your result

A quiz cannot know you. What it can do is narrow a long list down to two or three fields worth reading about. When you get a result, open the linked profiles and look for the line that makes you wince. Every job has one. If you can live with it, keep going. If you cannot, look at your second-place result.

If two directions came out close, the compare two careers tool puts any two jobs side by side.

Want a deeper look?

The U.S. Department of Labor runs a free, longer interest survey called the O*NET Interest Profiler. It takes about 15 minutes and matches you to hundreds of jobs. Our quiz is shorter on purpose: it is built for adults who already know they want training measured in months, not four years.

Questions people ask

Is this career quiz free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, and your answers stay in your browser. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere unless you choose to fill out the school form.

How accurate is a career quiz?

Treat it like a compass, not a map. It narrows your options based on what you told it. Reading the profiles, talking to people in the job and visiting a school will tell you far more.

What if I get a result I do not like?

Look at your close second, or take it again and answer more honestly about the parts of work you dislike. Dislikes are often a better guide than likes.

Does the quiz cover jobs that need a bachelor's degree?

No. It focuses on careers you can usually start with a certificate, an apprenticeship or a two-year degree, because that is what this site covers.
