Pell Grants for trade school Federal money you do not pay back.

Paying for training

The Pell Grant is the biggest source of free federal money for students, and it is not just for four-year colleges. It can be used at accredited trade and technical schools that take part in federal aid, if you qualify.

In short

Pell Grants can pay for trade school if the school is eligible for federal aid and you qualify based on financial need. For the 2026-27 award year, the maximum Pell Grant is $7,395 and the minimum award is $740, per the U.S. Department of Education. You apply by filing the FAFSA. Pell Grants usually do not need to be repaid.
