In short
Jobs least exposed to AI tend to be hands-on and done in person, like electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, nursing assistants, phlebotomists and line installers. They require physical work in changing settings and direct contact with people. Many need no bachelor's degree and, per BLS projections, keep adding openings through 2035.

How we built this list
We picked occupation groups where the work is physical and on site: construction, installation and repair, healthcare support and technician roles, and protective services. Then we ranked them by yearly openings. It is a judgment call, not a forecast, and we say so plainly.
What makes work hard to automate
- The setting changes every day, like a different house or patient.
- The job needs fine hand skills and quick physical problem solving.
- People want a trusted human present, as in patient care.
- Mistakes are dangerous, so a licensed person signs off.
Questions people ask
Is any job truly AI-proof?
No one knows for sure. Hands-on jobs in changing settings are widely seen as harder to automate, but tools will still change how they are done.
Will AI help people in these jobs?
Probably, through things like diagnostics and scheduling. The hands-on part still needs a person.
Are office jobs at risk?
Some routine desk tasks are more exposed. That does not mean every office job disappears, but it is worth building skills that need judgment.
